At the end of the Second Age of Middle-earth, the blade of Narsil was shattered when Elendil fell during the Last Alliance of Elves and Men in the great war against Sauron, giving rise to the Shards of Narsil. Isildur, Elendil’s son, then used the broken hilt of Narsil to cut the One Ring from Sauron’s finger, breaking his power and banishing his evil shadow into the darkness.
The armor and helmet Isildur wore in the battle of the Last Alliance of Elves and Men closely resembled those of his father, Elendil. Like Elendil’s helmet, Isildur’s was more ornate than the standard Númenórean design. However, instead of the two large seabird-style wings adorning Elendil’s helmet, Isildur’s featured four smaller crests representing the points of a compass, along with feathered wing-styled cheek guards.
