Originally, Dark Troopers were cyborg clone troopers with more than 70% of their bodies replaced by mechanical parts. Viewing human traits as a vulnerability, the project evolved by its third generation into advanced battle droids equipped with military-grade exoskeletons. These droids, resembling Stormtroopers, were armed with powerful weapons and rocket-powered feet, providing them with exceptional strength and maneuverability.

The Dark Troopers played a crucial role in the abduction of Grogu (Baby Yoda) on the planet Tython, transporting him to Gideon's ship where an entire platoon of these deadly droids was stationed. They presented a nearly insurmountable challenge for Din Djarin (Mando) and his allies during their mission to rescue Grogu, and were ultimately defeated with the assistance of the Jedi Master Luke Skywalker.
